“Perfectly imperfect” is the way that Jamie described her wedding day. And I absolutely admire her for that. There were many times throughout her day where I would have had a minor breakdown. But not Jamie. She held her head high, looked over at Matt and her loved ones, let the wind blow her veil in every direction, and not once did she lose her smile. Her positive and graceful personality kept me in awe as I photographed her + Matt’s wedding day. Here are just a couple of special moments from their big day:
Chris and I met Jamie + Matt at their hotel where they were getting ready. Chris photographed Matt as he got ready with his dad and his wedding party. I spent the first hour photographing Jamie who was surrounded by her mom and bridesmaids. There were pre-wedding nerves but mostly there were laughs – and lots of them. Jamie has this smile that sparkles, and it was extra bright that day.
Once everyone was finished getting ready it was time for Jamie to meet Matt for their first look. As Jamie and I walked down towards the lake we heard a stampede of people running towards us. “Jamie!” they screamed as they ran towards us while holding Jamie’s veil. Jamie was just so excited to see Matt that we forgot her veil. Thank goodness for fast acting bridesmaids! Good job, girls!
Once Jamie got her veil on we walked through a parking garage that just never seemed to end. We finally found the exit to get to the lake where Matt was waiting. As we walked towards the dock Jamie’s veil flew away. We grabbed it and decided maybe the high winds had other plans. Those winds had a plan of their own that day…. At one point Jamie ducked to prevent from Matt seeing her which made her dress strap break. We tried to MacGyver this situation using Jamie’s earrings, but we weren’t quite as equipped. Thankfully we were able to reach Matt’s sister who literally ran to us and sewed Jamie’s strap together. Thanks, Nikki!
But finally, it was time for the first look! Jamie + Matt spend most of their summer days on the lake. We had Matt wait on a dock on Lake Monona where Jamie warmly approached him. It was perfect. Matt’s reaction melted all of our hearts.
After that super sweet moment we proceeded with couple portraits. We walked up the bike trail, along the lake, and took shelter from the sun and wind under a tree where we continued to photograph their love and excitement.
After family and group pictures we headed to sign the infamous marriage license…which may or may not have blown away into the lake 🙂 But as I said, Jamie + Matt continued to smile and bask in their special day. We headed to the rooftop at the Monona Terrace where Jamie + Matt exchanged vows and “officially” became husband and wife! Woot!
Jamie + Matt enjoy and appreciate craft beers and so they headed to Merchant after the ceremony to quickly take in their day. They were joined by their bridal party who continued to share their positive vibes.
Alas! It was time to celebrate Mr + Mrs Kempel! Together with the rest of their friends and family Jamie + Matt cheered and laughed and danced the night away.
Congrats Jamie + Matt! May your smiles and positive outlook continue to bring you joyful days as husband and wife. I have no doubt that you’ll continue to be the perfect support for one another. And thanks again for choosing me as your wedding photographer! <3
